There’s a lot written about women and investing. But most of it points out the challenges women face as investors. Ladies, here are some important points you may not have heard yet:
You’ve made huge strides
The headlines consistently lament how challenging it is for women to save and invest. But the reality is, you’ve made huge strides in financial literacy. And it shows. The returns you earn in your investment portfolios are better than those of your male counterparts. And you are better at saving. These are all extremely positive inputs into the success of your financial future.
Investing is in your DNA
We all know that women and men are different. For example, women typically take longer to make decisions because we spend more time thinking through what can go wrong. We care more about the “why”. And we are generally more patient. Well, guess what? We should be celebrating these natural tendencies, because they are all things that are important when investing for the long-term. Ladies, we were built for this!
It’s ok if you don’t want to be all in on this topic
Just like you don’t have to be a medical professional to live a healthy lifestyle, you don’t have to be an expert in investments to have a strong financial plan. If learning more about the markets, economy, financial planning and how to invest isn’t your thing, that’s ok. But, just like you can’t ignore your health, career, or relationships and expect them to flourish, same goes with your money. The key to success in any of these life pillars is simple:
– Understand the basics.
– Be honest about what you don’t know or where you need help.
– Work with a professional that you trust and can relate to for help with the things you don’t know (or don’t have the time or interest to deal with).
It’s Time to Put Your Natural Talents to Work
In celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day (3/8), Heritage Financial is proud to launch a special initiative dedicated to helping women put their natural talents to work in building a strong financial future. No matter your level of knowledge or interest in investments, we’ve created a space just for you to ask questions, get answers and generally be supported through community as you build your wealth.
