Ann Smith, IACCP®

Chief Operating Officer & Chief Compliance Officer

Ann was born in Puerto Rico to American parents who worked in the sugar industry. She lived two years in Puerto Rico, then three years in Maine, before moving to southern Louisiana. Ann and her three siblings grew up on an 1800s-era sugar plantation surrounded by Cajun music, food and culture. She earned a music scholarship to Northeastern Louisiana University at Monroe, where she met her husband.

Ann started her career at a Louisiana trust bank. She worked her way up from dividend clerk to manager of operations, before moving to another large trust bank in Dallas. There, she co-founded a registered investment advisory firm that specialized in working with retired airline pilots. After helping grow the firm to $1 billion in assets under management, Ann spent five years with Pershing Advisor Solutions, managing custodial relationships with large RIAs.

In 2015, Ann joined the Heritage team, smitten with the firm’s passion, culture, meticulous financial planning, and commitment to improving its clients’ lives. As chief operating officer and chief compliance officer, she wears a lot of hats. Ann is responsible for all service and operations, custodian relationships, process improvement, IT and technology, compliance, and HR.

Ann and her husband are avid sailors, readers and travelers, especially to England, where their only daughter lives. They’re also both accomplished musicians, forever trying to find time in their busy lives to perfect a duet for mandolin and marimba.
