Unlike so many of life's moments of transition, the ideal time to downsize is different for every family. While it generally takes place after children leave the house (maybe after the second time they leave the house), for some it comes sooner, and others much later.  Making this activity more challenging and daunting is the work required to prepare for the adventure. While the question of where to go is often the most difficult,  getting the current home ready for sale requires skills that many have not used for some time - what to fix, what to keep, what to leave behind, can be overwhelming.

Understandably these questions are common at Heritage, and to address them in greater depth Managing Partner Sammy Azzouz held an educational event to discuss the topic with the help of Ned Mahoney, a Real Estate agent with Keller Williams Realty based in Needham, MA, and Asher Nichols, General Contractor with Asher Nichols & Craftsmen, LLC.  With a great deal of audience participation and a shared story of success from a recent downsizer, the group addressed many of the most common issues and even offered a few unique strategies to address this large change.

We've excerpted the discussion and made it available in a podcast (available here).  Take a listen and let us know if we've answered your questions, or share some creative strategies of your own.
